My Best People and Portrait Work of 2010 - 12-21-2010, 09:59 PM

At the beginning of 2010, my skills with off camera lighting and general portrait work were in what would politely be described as the "developmental stage". I have been fortunate to be able to draw inspiration from the work of many on this board, and many other seasoned professionals in this industry who have yet to find this wonderful place. I have learned a lot about lighting, posing, timing and the technical stuff as well. My post processing skills have gone to new places (with mixed results, IMO), and the journey to enlightenment continues. I am blessed to have an amazing extended family comprised almost solely of beautiful talented women from the ages of 6-80 who can usually be coaxed into the studio for some fresh photos.

I am no longer afraid of the flash or the studio...and I have many of you to thank for that. Happy Holidays to you all.

With that introduction in mind, I give you my best and favorite work of 2010. Your comments are always welcome. I will let you decide if the efforts have been worth it.

Enjoy.

IMHO, images 6 and 8 are the best. Nice skin tones in the color, great match of mood and lighting in the B&W. It looks like of them have been up-sized which is making them look a bit pixely. Good job for bravely trying new things, may the new year bring you even greater improvement beyond the great strides you've made this year.

Daniel - Thank you for the kind words. The pixel and grain artifacts you are seeing are actually probably the result of just the opposite effect. These photos are all ~10MB JPEG files in their native resolution. They have been down-res'd to about 100kB in order to be posted on the forum. No up-sizing was done on the native files.

Thanks Todd. The thing that made that image special for me was that it was all planned by me prior to the shoot, and the image is almost completely what came out of the camera.
