I wanted a B&W shot of my Grandfather on my mom's side for her and the rest of the family. I have several others to review, but I liked the mood in this one. C&C is welcome.

Out of curiosity, is this how everyone remembers him? he looks sad and lonely. or is he a happy guy?

even if he is currently sad and lonely, is that the way everyone would want to remember him?

He looks happy to me. But I could be wrong myself. :)

Overall, he's a happy guy. I think what makes it more somber is his watery eyes. They are naturally always like that so I didn't want to remove it. He's actually grinning just a touch, but for the most part this is his natural expression. I have some where he's smiling that I may try and work on as well.

Nice job with portable lighting. You kept the glasses from getting any glare from the flashes. How were you set up to shoot?

Thanks for the comments. For the setup I had 2 speedlights set close to a 45 on each side bounced off 2 silver lined umbrellas. The flash on his right was throwing more light than on his left. The lights were maybe 3 ft away on both sides raised a bit above his glasses. Black cloth draped over his chair and a black backdrop.

I can see the touch of a smile there, I think it's a very nice photo that shows his character and what a great thing to do. So many people when they're older don't get portraits made and then when they are gone it's too late.
