Hi guys,
I'm more of a lurker here, but I've been learning a lot from everyone's critique of other's photos. Anyway, my daughter asked me to attempt some senior pictures with her and her friend, so armed with a T2i, 70-200mm 2.8, 50mm and an off-camera Speedlight, we shot these. After the fact, I realized I should have paid more attention to posture, leg position, muddy boots and hair blowing around. But, I'd really appreciate some thoughts on any of these.

I think they came out great! Your lighting is really good, and there is a genuine playfulness about them. Impressive!

Really good stuff man. Little nitpicks would be that I think she might be a little too centered in the first two.
I actually thought that the water in the background on #3 was the rear end of an SUV lol

I like. Careful on the vignetting in 4, 5 and 6. Putting away the speedlight in favor of a reflector can give you nice results too.
I like this one, despite the cut off toe. Maybe a tighter crop.

Not too bad for a first shot at senior pics (I've certainly seen a lot worse first tries)... a lot of broad lighting here, but I suppose you can get away with it since she's young and pretty. The yellow dress among the brown trees is an interesting choice... its a spring/summery outfit but the trees still say winter or fall... would be a great dress for bluebonnet or other spring pictures.
I'm tempted to say bring 'em down here and we'll play some.. LOL

I think I cropped those first two, so I'll see if there's room to move her to one side a bit. Hmm, I don't see the SUV, but I guess it's because I know there was a waterfall back there. Quote:

I'm tempted to say bring 'em down here and we'll play some.. LOL | Interesting, I didn't even consider their choice of clothes (other than the dresses being sleeveless, which if I recall, is kind of frowned upon), but that's a good point regarding the setting. Afterwards, I did notice that I should have caught that bra and under-shirt straps were showing. This was somewhat of an impromptu shoot and I had never seen this spot they brought me to. But, I'll try to keep clothing choice in mind.
I am starting to see blue bonnets around town now, so I will have to try some more shots in them.
I really appreciate the feedback for ya'll.

Kids sit at desks and text too much, and they always "slump" when they sit. Gotta make sure they sit up straight... most noticeable in #2, #7

I didn't notice it until after wards. I am terrible at posing, but this experience has given me some things to pay attention to the next time.

Wow, impressed... awesome job!
I would have to add the same about using a reflector, and I really like #4 and #5 - very fun/natural | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
