Critique: NC:

I am at heart a nature and wildlife photogher. (I have never had a bear complain about his picture.)

But there is a part of me that would like to do people pictures. Unfortunately, my wife is one of those who simply does not like her picture taken nor does she really like posing while I learn.

The kids are grown and gone so my practice subjects are limited.

Does anyone have suggestions to either help my wife become more comfortable being my model or how to find willing subjects :)

Promise her some modeling gigs or tell her that you can get her in a calendar or music videos. Seems to work on Model Mayhem.

Take her out on a date and have fun, once she's a bit more relaxed she may enjoy posing for you. I hate being on the other side of the camera right now, mainly because I haven't lost all the baby weight and not feeling like my pre-baby(ies) sexy self, so if it's a self esteem issue or just funk of the month feeling, boost her ego and take her shopping first!

I know exactly what you're talking about. I can shoot my wife only if she has one of the very rare moments. Not a good base for practicing.
I would look out for a nice looking and interested model (not a pro) in my area and do some TFP/TFCD work with her.

I don't ask. I just take 'em. When she starts yelling, I just tell her she'll be thanking me in thirty years when she looks back on them with fondness.

Probably a good suggestion. Plus relaxing and just have some fun. Stuff yourself in front of the camera as well.

I tell my wife and kids the same thing.

My wife and kids respond better when I tell them that they are looking great and only make small suggestions to their poses. I don't get frustrated with them on the outside. I just say stuff like:
You look great
Move your chin up just a bit, perfect
That's going to make a great photo
Perfect, great, ...

You get the point. Most people are uncomfortable in front of the camera so building them up a bit gets them more comfortable. Most of the time they don't even ask to see the pictures. When they do there are a few really good ones that they all like.
