Stephene, take this for what it's worth - if you're learning to make images you may consider staying away from heaving processing at least until you've mastered the technical aspects of image-making - exposure, composition, color, focus, etc. Nothing wrong with radically changing the appearance of an image, but it works best if it's done for a reason and not just because it's so easy to do and makes images look "cool" or different.
Just my opinion, but I am probably in the minority, as I see plenty of so-so shots heavily modified.
