The first thing I would point out is that they are all the exact same angle, no variation whatsoever

Not sure how others will feel about this. I would ask, who is your customer for Senior Photos? I bet you are REALLY selling the photos to Mom and Dad as much as to the Student. In these photos you show, I see eyes in only one image and and those are not looking very happy. As a parent, I am not sure that is how I want to remember my son's senior year of HS...
On a technical note, part of the reason for the expression in that first image is the harsh lighting. An umbrella or screen to soften the light on his face would have relaxed his face and made the lighting better at the same time.

Just a thought...

great, appreciate it.

the kid did not like pictures, and the parents got frustrated, so i did not push the issues. They did love the images.

but thanks for the screen tip, will try that, sun was almost 45 degrees in front, but they wanted THAT wall.

thanks again

Wall is great and I can understand them wanting it. just that harsh light..... and I think a fill flash, although it would handle the shadows, wouldnt help his squint.... the screen, basically a frame holding some sheer material, would diffuse the light enough to do both.

after looking at your newborn thread, and then this one...i have to ask... is your monitor calibrated?

the bottom 2 look too purple again.

the kid definitely doesnt look like he's in the mood to be there. his hand positioning doesnt really help #2 at all.

think #3 is your best of the 3. would be interesting to see some more without his sunglasses.

Dagger, Not bad, your doing well with your exposures.

Keep in mind you always photograph for three people, Mom & Dad, the Senior and Yourself!!! Your the photographer and your in charge and it's your duty to make sure those base are covered. Have fun with your Senior, make them smile, but then also do some more serious looks.

In # 1, the light is harsh, all you need to do in this situation is put his right shoulder up against the wall with the sun behind him and bring in a reflector or fill flash to brighten up the shadow he will be in. And off course get creative with your cropping.

#2 Your camera angle is to low, busy background and that hand by his crotch is distracting.

#3 I like this, but watch the cutting off of hands. Also retouch some of his blimishes, he'll love you for it!!!
