Here are a few shots from Alyssa's first photo shoot ever. I think she did a fantastic job! Sometimes I post for CC and sometimes I post with NC just to share with you guys. If you have any questions about lighting or whatever, by all means ask and I will answer. Thanks!

Love the mood and feel of the 3rd one. Was that real rain on the window? I would love to know how you set that shot up, down to the small details. Real Window? Rain or? Etc.
TIA
David

Thanks David. Alyssa was in my living room, I was in the back yard. My makeup artist was holding a garden hose on the "spray" setting, but at very low power. I asked him to ark the "rain" up slightly to let the rain fall down more gently. I didn't want it splattering all over the place. I also asked him to get the water very close to her face, but not cover it. I was trying to isolate Alyssa's expression, without being obvious about it. Flash was a strobe with 7" silber reflector, pointed straight at the window. This served to give me some nice strong shadows and to let the light reflected from the window go straight back towards the light, rather than my lens. I picked an angle where I couldn't see my modeling lamp and asked Alyssa to let her thoughts wander, be bored or melancholy. Here is another version. This one is SOOC. The background is about 3 feet behind her. It's just some gold fabric lit from below with a gridded speed light.

Thanks!

Thanks Chris. I was hoping you were going to tell me some secret to where I could reproduce it in the studio without using real water
Again, I like the image ♥♥♥

It occurs to me that, for the last shot, if you had camera on a tripod you could have shot one image of water over the whole window and then using photoshop layers, edited it to isolate the face as you wished....

Thanks Bruce! That is definitely something that I use from time to time. But she already is isolated the way I wished for this particular image:) The few little droplets in front of her face imply melancholy to me.
