the second one more so then the first one, research Rembrandt, butterfly, split and loop lighting.

Your definitely on the right track.

Also look up Yousuf Karsh

Love the model and hair! The dress I associate more with pinup than Hollywood glamour. The light is nice and could be better, mostly higher ratio of hair vs. main, and more contrast. Thanks for sharing!
