Northwest Territories Unique Aurora Borealis Portrait - 10-02-2011, 07:09 PM

Critique: NC:

All done in one shot...no composites or background substitution. Just an off camera speedlight.

I had to tune the green down in the aurora as the Carl Zeiss 21 2.8 ZE really over saturated the colors. White balance is calibrated to the color of the model's skin tone the best.

Aurora borealis follows the mighty slave river in the background, with the town lights reflecting in the sky (center orange light over the horizon)

Starry night sky for miles around.

This is our Northwest Territories...I hope you enjoy my attempt at showcasing the beauty of the north (and of northern people) to the world.

That is pretty unusual but a very nice shot. Thanks for sharing.

What is she holding in her right hand? I agree, a very unusual but awesome shot. Love the colors.

Gorgeous and unique shot. I was wondering what she was holding too because I can't see her left hand at all, and her knees look dirty but maybe that's her skin tone?

cool attempt. I dont think the speed light was enough to get the job done. But im sure it was really dark where you were at. maybe some extra constant lighting if possible. bring a generator if you have too. But I love the idea and think you are really on to something here.

very cool - love the river and night light curves.

I might suggest having her look into the frame as i am asking myself, what is she looking at? Also a softbox on the flash might help.

Great shot!
