Is my monitor off? - 10-19-2011, 05:05 PM

Critique: CC:

Just printed these off with my little HP photo printer-which is running out of ink-and they look a cold to me. They looked alright (maybe just a tad cool) onscreen. Is it the printer or my monitor?

I know I need to work on framing, but any other comments?

No problem. Are you calibrating your monitor? The Pantone Huey is one of the cheapest calibration solutions - and it's served me well. The "Pro" version just has "better" software - it is the exact same hardware. The standard version is a little cheaper. If you don't care about the software differences, or aren't even going to use the software (I don't) - get the cheaper one.

I use dispcalGUI for my calibration. IMO, it's better than what comes with the standard Huey, and it's free & cross platform.

Yes, they do. And they look better on my calibrated monitor than my non-calibrated one. :)

Thanks for the info Josh. Unfortunately, I'm not calibrating now. I just wanted to make sure it wasn't totally off.

If you're not going to calibrate, consider shooting a gray or white card of know value in your lighting conditions. Then you can at least know what 'right' looks like. Beyond that, it's all in the eye of the beholder anyway.

Good luck!
