The second is more interesting IMHO. I did a very quick edit showing a different crop, removing the paper on the wood step, warming the tones (not perfect), and adding a little vignetting. I'd would also bump up the contrast in the eyes a bit (careful of the whites). Just my first impressions at 12:30 a.m. YMMV. : )

The first one is also a good shot. It has a more innocent look to it.

Thanks. Wow The crop give this a stronger look and now I'm definitely going to edit out that paper or whatever that was. Excellent note that I'll really have to pay as much attention to the background as well as the subject. The vignetting and bumping up the contrast in the eyes makes sense as well. Thanks for the critique.
