A couple of family portraits

Both shots seem a little too impersonal for being family photos. The 1st one is not so bad in those terms, but they still seem a little too separated. The 2nd shot is too cold, in their poses as a family and physically cold being conveyed in how they are sitting.

Outside of that, the exposure could use a little fill on their faces in #1, but looks fine in #2. I think I would have gotten them in closer together. Maybe placing two of them in chairs and two standing, or two sitting on the table top pyramiding down to the two seated below.

you did a good job of making sure the cross wasn't growing out of anything, but remember family portraiture is taking individuals and making it look like they belong together.

and maybe try a shallower DOF

Yeah, that day was pretty cold and brisk with a constant breeze.

In re: DoF, I could have moved back another 5-10 ft, shot at 2.8. I'll keep that in mind next time.
