The Soft Box Chair - 12-26-2011, 11:48 PM

Critique: CC:

My little nephews got chairs like this for Christmas:
IKEA PS LÖMSK Swivel chair - blue/white - IKEA

As soon as I saw that white canopy I knew a picture was coming because it's built-in diffusion material. Shooting a flash into the partially closed canopy turns the thing into a kind of reverse soft box. I just fired a single SB-600 downwards into the canopy handheld and attached to my D5000 with a TTL cord.

Here are the results:

I was thinking the same. It definitely has a photobooth feel.

Expressions are great and I like the look the chair gives the photos.

These are fun and sharp. Nice job.

great photos. is it possible to get them in some more light like from a nearby window or something to reduce the size of their pupils and make the color of their iris come out? Dont know whats around the chair.
Love the theory though. Great perception of possibilities by you!

Thanks. I probably could have just turned the lights out but my window of opportunity was small with these two. Now it has passed for the time being since I'm in Waco and they are in Phoenix.

I thought about buying one of these chairs until I saw they were $80 or something. I think I'll just stick with an actual softbox for now since I already have one of those. ;)
