The Drought - 01-24-2012, 07:15 PM

Critique: NC:

I love telling stories with pictures, and increasingly, video. Like all over Texas, we've been in the midst of a historic drought and while it's easy to gloss over the subject when looking at the problem from the outside, you need to hear personal stories to get a true feel of what people are going through.

I've been collecting a few stories of locals who've been affected by the drought and recording their perspectives for posterity's sake.

Local history may not make national news but is worth recording. As photographers, we have all of the tools we need to collect the history around us.

Good job. Cattle died out at our place. Here's a pic I took while standing in the middle of our biggest tank over this past Thanksgiving. In my 36 years I've never seen it like this. Cracked and bone dry, not a drop to be found in it:

That was absolutely beautiful.

We're still feeding our horses beet pulp plus grain because the three last two crops of hay didn't grow.

It was really hard seeing the effects of the drought this year and you documented it well from this gentleman's perspective. As I have told you we moved out to a lease in Estelline and it was hard watching the land and the people we have met suffer through the past year. My prayers are with all of the people who have been affected by this drought. Thank you for documenting this piece of history.

We see a lot of hay being trucked across Louisiana. Always heading west on I20 to Texas.

Very compelling documentary and very sad indeed. Thanks for sharing.

Btw, at 5:21 you've got a misspelling: should say disaster instead of distaster.

Thanks. I know. I saw that misspelling right after I rendered the piece.

Oops. So you can't go back and correct it after the fact, huh? Didn't know that about video.
