Critique: CC:

Got a new 85mm 1.2 for Christmas, got a new grandson a week ago, they go hand in hand. First real newborn shoot. My home studio is pretty small with a low ceiling so I didn't have a lot of room to move around. But for a first effort, I'm quite pleased. (Plus, I wasn't baptized by him during this shoot.)

Post work was some sharpening and Topaz to smooth the skin red/blotchiness.

Grand kids and cameras just go together. I think my favorite is 1,2and 3. Good job. Glad he showed favor to Granddad and let you dry.

Love #1, but I'd like just a tad more depth of field. His right eye isn't in focus.

#2 is fantastic, and my favorite!

On #3, it looks like you've done a fair amount of post work on the skin. I like that it's less splotchy and red, but there's something odd going on where the rope from the hat is across his back. It looks like there's some blurring, and you lose the sharp definition between the braid and his back.

Thanks.

I'll go back and look at 3. I used Topaz and selected a skin softening option to hide the red blotchiness in the skin.

I will say I cranked up the 1.2 to f4 and played with some higher f-stops. I need to look at other shots and see how high they go and how much of the body I like in focus. As I was reviewing these on the PC screen I began to wish I'd gone higher for more DOF. Live and learn.
