Hmmm...the CNN/SI site seems a little slow right now...I wonder why?
It's amazing how many blown highlights I'm seeing in these photos. Big beautiful blown highlight. *Insert Homer drooling sound*

All kidding aside, I really do wish the photo information was listed somewhere. Maybe I'll take a look at the videos from the site for research purposes.

The problem with these types of publications is that even if they produced a behind the scenes, photography documentary, you really wouldn't learn anything...except that if you had 25 assistants, $25K in studio lighting, and a body double that's willing to pose for hours on end so you can position the lights just so, you too could get a great photo.
I know I maybe cynical, but there are fewer and fewer purists that can actually take a photo with the sun and a reflector any more.

some of the shots where borderline porn. just horrid. In school i would have been told to do it again if I turned in some of those images.
Some of the stuff he did with just sun and a reflector. I really didnt see a whole lot of strobes used. I really think he was using some hot lights for a while. the images that where any good where the old tried and ture SI shots that they always do. Who would take all those models and stick them in the same spots as you just shot the other models. what is with the bed shots?

OK...so I went through some of the galleries. I have to say that a lot of the shots are pretty darn "amateurish". Heck, some even had the photographer's (or someone else's) shadow in them. The only one I saw that I really liked (my fav model from the bunch - as well as the shot) was this one: http://i.a.cnn.net/si/features/2006_...6_ydiaz_11.jpg

Well..that one was a simple set up...a beautifull and fit model in a swimsuit at the pool, good make up (and photoshop) this one was shot with a long lens, maybe arround a 100mm or more, from a bit lower angle than the model's face, the sun is in fron't of her so they used a big rectangular difusser to block the sun but still let light thru (they should have used a wider one as you can see it in the shadow) the Photographer was probably about 10 ft or more away, so with the sun directly on the bg undefuse and shallow deph of fields thowing the bg out of focuss and overexposed, but giving even lighting to the model...Camera set as aRGB, +1 Contrast, +2 sharpness, +1 saturation, shot Raw then converted to Tiff for Processing and editing before meeting deadline at the Press...then converted to sRGB for online viewing. Shot with Canon Mark II 1Ds L glass (white whale)...ohh, I forgot...a light aplication of oil was applied to the model prior to shooting and cleavage was done using arms to push them together...
ok...see that was easy, who needs the info, you got all the into in the pic, now who wants to go out there and test it
