great shots. Wish my results would have been as good when I shot Vallejo Antones in Beaumont. I'll post some of mine later to night for critique. What is your setup? Camera, Lens, Flash or not.

My setup is "Don't take pictures at Antone's in Beaumont." HAHA (I happen to be from Orange)
Really...the light sucks in there. I took like 5 shots in there one night, then put my camera down, and consumed tasty beverages the rest of the night. ;)
These particular shots are Canon 20D, ISO 800, Canon 70-200 2.8L. No flash...very few exceptions to that rule...that is KEY to good concert shots. (unless you are shooting in daylight and just filling. The guitar player shot was daylight and I did fill flash)
One or two were witht he Tamron 17-35, which I am starting to REALLY dig by the way.
But the real factor here is neat lighting at Firewater. I love catching guys coming through there. The light is awesome, and the light guys are really cool about working with you. They even let me on the roof of the bar for thoe shots from above.
Most of these pictures are not that great for the band to use, but they are fun for me anyway.
* On a side note: I was at Antones about a month ago to shoot Randy Rogers. I drive 5 hours to get there right as the show started. Shot for a bit, then hung out until about 3:00am. Walked to the Jeep and realized my dash was gone, along with all my audio equipment and my GPS. Took two hours for the cops to get there. Then drove to Orange and slept at my Mom's place for a couple of hours, and drove the 5 hours back with no radio. Little known fact: 5 hour drives with no radio take 9 hours.

Mine is Non-IS. I don't use the 70-200 in a way that I would really benefit from it enough to justify the cost. If I ever sell a kid or something, I want a 400mm, and then I would have a reason to use the IS. ;)
I want that 400 so badly...

Not as many at 2.8 as you might think. This is actually one of the venues that will help us out with the lights. THey have a killer setup.
The killed me with those red lights though. Man I hate those.

Not bad for Antone's. Not much you can do with that light...not only is it low light, it is usually red...which makes it even tougher. Althought 1.8 sure helps.
In that kind of light, you are better off just doing extreme closeupss of the guys or their instruments. it is the only way to get any real light bouncing off them. Also, the only place that works at Antone's is center stage...the other guys are not lit very well at all.
I have been able to salvage some decent shots ofthe lead singer, and very closeup from that venue.
If you go back, try and get some real tight shots of the singer. You should be able to get enough light bouncing off their face to help you out.
