First model shoot - abandoned well site in west Houston - 05-09-2005, 09:01 AM

My first shoot with a model, the lovely Diana Walker.

The site has tanks, stairs, platforms, barrels, and a very rideable Waukesha gas-fired engine (not running of course).

Scanned film image from Fuji NPH 400.

Here is a page showing model-less images throughout the site. These were taken with a 3.2 MP digital:

I am interested in further shooting at this site with any interested models on a TFP basis.

Where is this place? Who owns the property?

It is located about 3/4 mile south of where Westheimer Parkway crosses Buffalo Bayou in George Bush Park, about 1/2 mile west of the Barker Cypress intersection and the shooting range.

AFAIK, it is either within GBP or Army Corps of Enginneers property, either of which are public land. The well site is just off the main bayou trail, but shielded by trees and and a single point of entry (good for obvious reasons!).

There are no fences or "keep out" signs of any kind. None of the equipment is operational except for a small pipe rack (sllight odor noted). I would say the biggest danger would be bees that live around some of the tanks and hot or sharp metal surfaces.

Since my children found the site last year while out walking, I have been appreciative of its photographic potential. So far I have shot the area three times, twice by myself and once with Diana.

The site has great potential for everything from studies of the equipment to artistic figure modeling, not to mention model shoots with a "Texas feel":

My father-in-law has one of these old Waukesha motors running his grass farm irrigation well outside of Houston. If anybody wants to bring some pretty bikini clad women to pose on it, I'll meet you there.

That does sound like a really neat place to explore and photograph! With a bikini-clad model, not so sure about her sitting on sun-heated equipment though... ouchy buns!! ;)
