Went down to NOLA for Mardi Gras and shot some street pics

Found a guy who was done up as father Noel and grabbed a few good shots of people with him but this shot of this little girl I think is one of the best showing genuine love towards Christmas and Santa Claus.

I had met the gentleman a few minutes earlier as he was walking down Royal Street and chatted with him for a few minutes and saw that he was out having fun, he was from Cajun Country and had gone to the Quarter many times in the past just to bring smiles to peoples faces. Well as we were walking down the street I see that he had passed this little girl but didn't see her on the sidewalk behind some people and I mentioned that she may like seeing him. He asked me to point her out and he saw her and went over to where she was. Well I hope I captured the joy in her face, I mean honest to goodness joy that you just cannot force onto a childs face, it has to come from within.

Yeah my timing was off by about a second or two from when she first saw him walking up, he had already given her a candy cane by the time I got this shot. She was even more wide eyed and smiling right before this. Seeing this was one of the highlights of my time down there, since the look that she had on her face came totally from within her.

I lived in Columbia Miss. for 9 years in the 60's. Less than 100 miles from NO.
Our next door neighbors were native New Orleanians. They advised us to watch the parades on New Orleans TV,( which we received), and not go there! Much Safer in those days. They NEVER went to the parades. They watched them on TV too!!!
