donnie,
we're in studio. they are all wearing black shirts. i'm not concerned with the backdrop color, i'm concerned with positioning.
one idea i was thinking maybe, dad stradling a chair, wife on one side, youngest on the other and then the wife husband team on the floor in front.
that's all i got right now. any help would greatly be appreciated!!!
they were wanting some fun poses.

This is a friend of mines website. He only does locations, but the posing is not unlike what you might do in the studio. David S. Irvin Photographer

In studio with dark clothing I'd suggest a dark background of some sort... probably muslin if you don't have a dark painted wall or very large canvas. It's crucial that you use rim and hair light though, to give them seperation and deminsion. You can see the rim lighting I'm talking about on the Irvin site above, as well as several examples of good posing. The key in posing a group like that is to put their heads on slightly different levels, stacking them in a loose triangular shape.

I'll let him know !! Or, you could send him a message through his contact link. If several folks say the same thing, it would make more of an impact.

He does nice work. I liked his Texas Ranger section. He handled a large group of armed men pretty well

i did one for a family group a few years ago, i stacked them from laying down to standing on a stool so the effect was like a totem pole of heads. if i can find it i will try to scan and post it.

This is a family group I shot last Christmas... they were a lot of fun, but we had a good session. http://jti.smugmug.com/gallery/2214657

Umm.. yeah, that's what I was going to suggest. ;-)
Not sure if it helps, but I'd add that you should try to keep all the faces roughly in the same vertical plane rather than slightly in front of, behind each other... that way when you shoot your DOF doesn't blur out anybody... Quote: |
