Natalia - A few quick shots from Boston - 11-30-2007, 03:38 PM

Well, I am trying to get the hang of the new Canon system. Here's a couple from a quick session I did yesterday while visiting Boston. Natalia and I had a very limited amount of time on a horribly cloudy and rainy afternoon. You gotta love those speedlghts and justin clamps! Every time I break out the extra flash I say a little thanks to the TriCoast crew!

This was the first time I really got to shoot with a bit of purpose with the Mark III and then do some post work. I will say that the Canon RAW files seem quite a bit different from Nikon NEF's when it comes to the initial adjustments. Not bad, just different. A lot of my "normal" initial workflow had to be tweaked. It is beginning to make sense though....

This one was a quick shot with just a touch of hand held flash to fill and give me a touch of color which I brought out with a warming filter preset. It was just so gray out....

This one is using a flash on a Justin clamp dangling from a Joby wrapped around a piece of wire. Hey, I didn't have an extra person so you do what ya gotta do.... TriCoast X-Process action and some contrast adjustments.

Same speedlight dangling only this time snooted to help give me a more natural light falloff. Slight contrast and vibrance bump and a touch of vignette to smooth out the transition. She's smiling becasue I told her we needed to wrap as the rain was just tooo much and she was finally able to put her coat on! I hate those cold rainy days, it just chills you to the bone.

That first shot is awesome!
I don't care for the X-Process on the 2nd shot. I like the shot and I like the X-Process look, but just not together there.
Is her right eye 2 different colors? Or is that a reflection in the last shot?

LOL, yeah, her eye is mostly brown with about a quarter of it being blue/grayish.

I'll likely give that second shot a couple of more tries, this was just the first treatment that I hit upon that I liked. High contrast b&w wasn't working so I figured, what the heck, cross it.....

Hey! She showed up. Hey Pete thanks again for taking the time to take my call and walk me through the Nikon CLS system again the other day. Hows my old city of Boston treating you ? If you are still there do not leave without a bowl of Legal Seafoods clam chowda! The best you will ever have. Thanks again Pete for you're help and those shots of her came out great.

Actually, I was staying at the Omni Parker House and their chowder was darn good too! Top 3 in my personal book.

@Chris - The city was good but Mother Nature was bad. Right after talking with you the temp dropped and it started to rain. Still had fun though...

Are we admitting some sort of problem ? lol.. Legal Seafood's Chowda should be illegal. One weekend I googled clam chowder recipies and thier recipie was listed and its awesome! Just can not get the clams you need here. But overall it was pretty good. The trick is adding shreaded potoato and sheaded carrots!

I weigh 350 lbs. That's definitely a problem !!

The secret is in the potatoes, carrots, and all the cream and budda. (butter for you "come laters").

p.s. come laters = folks who aren't kin to the pilgrims.

The first one is very nice. I love the warm feel and the color key of it. The other two have some funky lighting going on they look way flashed.

P.S. I'm sorry you fell from grace and are now a canon user! LOL ;) :P I'm teasing!
