Some things are more important than Image Quality - 08-27-2005, 04:35 PM

When each of my kids have graduated from High School I've bought a page in the year book and put together a layout of photos that represent special moments in their lives. My youngest son is graduating this year. While going through old photos I came across this one. It was taken an hour or so after he was born. I handed him to his sister and brother and grabbed this shot with my old Nikkormat FT and 50mm 1.8 lens. I think the film was Kodacolor 400 pushed a stop or so. The print was scanned and converted to B&W in Phototshop. Anyway, it just stood out to me that something which might not be the highest in quality could still be a meaningful photo and thought I'd share it.

That is a very nice and expressive picture. Some folks would probably spend a fair amount of time in Photoshop to create the soft mood of that picture from their super sharp digicamera capture!

Nothing to worry about here. The origional is quite soft, thank you. You are so right. And I'm just as guilty as anyone. With digital your first act is to blow that sucker up to 100% and if it's not tack sharp, trash can it. Maybe it's because of the close personal meaning to me but pictures like this can sometimes touch an internal chord that just feels right.

That picture has a lot of quality - in the moment it captured!
