These shots aren't "people". Hope I'm putting this in the right forum.

Handling external lighting is an enormous hole in my knowledge store, so I finally broke down and paid for an online lighting course. It's a short course, so I don't expect to get incredibly complex. But since a lot of folks here are working on studio lighting (I even saw a discussion somewhere about wigheads), I thought I'd share these first assignment shots.

The actual assignment was "hard light", and the shot with the book isn't being submitted for critique. It was just for fun.

FWIW -- my long-term goal here is not to do studio work. I'm really just working on the mechanics and technical aspects, so I can more effectively use external lighting.

:>

I think if I'd been able to select my own wighead, I wouldn't have wanted a pure white one. It was, however, extremely inexpensive...

Unfortunately I can't give you any critique on the lighting, but I can help you with your model..I was in the garage last night playing with my Shaniqua!!! Buy the cheapest eyelashes you can. It helps in making sure the eyes are crystal clear!!

We have three of these at the studio (my wife does, for her knitting business).. they are named Winken, Blinken, and Nod.

I like that first one.. and the last one made me smile.

Thanks, Brad! The first one was really a closer shot than my "vision" wanted me to do, but one must meet the assignment criteria first before playing. I'm so glad the last made made you smile. Means I succeeded with that image...

And I really like everybody's names. (My daughter would love Shaniqua -- it's one of her nicknames.) I really need to come up with something for mine, I suppose. There've been some suggestions on my blog, but none of them really "grabbed" me, ya know?

James -- yes indeed, Sally Beauty Supply is exactly where this one came from, for the princely sum of $3.69.

Brilliant idea! Could you insert some marble-eyes? Then maybe you could practice catchlights?

The skin looks WAY too plastic for my tastes. Perhaps dial the skin processing back a couple notches?
