Nice shots and color. Seem like a fun lens to shoot with.

nice shots!

so when taking pictures of people, did you just turn and snap, or talk to them first about taking their pic?

Nice stuff.

You read my mind... I always wonder about that too. I feel awkward having my camera & pointing at a stranger. I know it would make them feel awkward too. What do you do?

Never hurts to just ask: "Hey, mind if I take your picture?"

Nice images. Love the processing.

Count me as one who wants to know, did you ask permission first, then have to tell them to do what they were doing and ignore you (in some cases) and because these are so good, do you have releases if you wanted to enter one or more into any contest or publish it?

Thank you, everyone, for stopping by to have a look and commenting. With street photography, it's never the same. I think that is why I really love it. Each situation has to be handled differently. You kind of have to go with your instinct as to what to do. Sometimes it does require that you ask for their permission and ask them to carry on as you take the image. Some people just couldn't care less and let you take as many pictures as you want. Then you have those who will do anything you ask. Some days are good, some are horrible. It's highly likely that the majority of these people are there every day. They remember you. They get used to you. You almost become part of the scene, but you have to be consistent. Carry as little gear with you as possible...that will deter any intimidation. I take only my camera and one lens...nothing more, not even a bag. Last but not least, I will share a little secret with.....if you smoke cigarettes, then great, if not - buy a pack. You'll encounter homeless people and vagrants who want to be paid to have their picture taken. More often than not, they will accept a cigarette or two. Oh....and, yes, it never hurts to spend some time talking to the people. That's all I can think of for now. I went out and shot again today, so keep a lookout for more pics. Thanks again for looking, I REALLY appreciate it.

Andy - no releases required. If they're in a public place, it's game one. You can even publish or sell prints of them without a release. So long as you don't do it for advertisement of a product or the like. Cheers!

If you approach people with that awkward feeling, they'll be able to sense it and in turn, they'll become more apprehensive. Just take a deep breath and go with it. It is so enjoyable and fulfilling.

Great points. Especially about the smokes.

Selling those shots as fine art wouldn't require a release. I agree. You're ahead of me, selling shots. I look at some and think about submitting them to a magazine or contest. They generally do want a release.

Great work.
