Movement: 19month old - B&W, Sepia or Color pop? - 03-10-2009, 04:14 PM

This is my 19month old daughter (yes, it's a girl!) - total 'chance' shot. I was photographing my 11 year old's softball game, and got this one afterwards when I was just snapping some of her and her dad playing around.

Technically speaking - the right side of her face is blown... but as I learned... there is 'technically' correct... and 'emotionally' correct. And this one, to me... is one that I'd be 100% okay with offering a client.

So I played - which edit do you prefer? These are basic light room preset edits with some small modifications. Sharpened for web of course.

Sepia Edit:

or Color Pop (my favorite, cause I can see her blue eyes, lol):

They all look great, but I vote B&W..... When I look at the B&W version I see joy - I see her. Whereas, the colour version distracts from the subject.

I like them all (kids in motion are great!); she looks more like a girl in the color one to me, but that doesn't really matter because you are your own client. Get her some girly shoes or something, she's precious!

Any or all! The only minor nit I would pick is the highlights look a bit overexposed. That should be easily corrected by some whiz bang handy dandy photo software...But nothing wrong with it (them) the way they are.

The right side of her face ....or is that left cause I'm looking at her? oh well... yeah - definitely blown... the sun was setting on that side, and ... blah blah blah... I was just screwing around taking pictures of her and her dad walking around...

this is one of her and dad:

donna, the one with her and her dad is just precious. I definitely believe in emotionally correct... and both of these are. I love them in black and white :)

FWIW ... I love the sepia! For me it invokes the strongest emotion and gives it that timeless feel. LOVE LOVE LOVE the one w/ dad. Talk about pulling at your heart strings! :)

I like the color one, but it seems to have a cool color cast, a slight warming may help, I don't know. Here is a quick and dirty edit, the right way to do it would be to change the white balance.
