Where can I stand to improve? - 05-08-2009, 12:47 PM

These are a couple of my first shots using my sb-600 speedlight. Both shots the light was being bounce off of the ceiling.

The first pic is a quick snapshot I did of my son as my wife was playing with him. I didn't do any post production other than some sharpening.

The second pic is a cropped head shot of my brother. I did some color adjusting and sharpening.

For the first one, you should either crop in tighter or pull back a little bit. To me it's a little akwardly framed. . . with the extra space above him and the back of his head is cropped.

The shot of your brother is a little flat and red (on my monitor).

Ahhh what a refreshing sight. Picture one and two are both vivid in color and have the subjects in perfect focus. I understand you corrected some color on image two so I will let that slide this time. LOL but notice the depth and ap on image one. You did good on controlling that.

Looking at image two you will also see the depth of field on his left shoulder. Just tell you brother he needs a hair cut. LOL

Great Job C. Keep up the practice.

Over to the left a little.

Just joking regarding: where can I stand to improve

You have a couple of good one there, all kidding aside. He does look too red to me. Calibrated monitor??

Chadrick - It is unfair to ask for criticism when you post a picture like number one. That is a great looking kid. I will let others talk about composition and toning.

If that is the case I need to find a new subject...lol! He was born 4/1 and I know I have taken over 1000 shots of him b4 getting the speedlight. Now that I have it, it is even harder to stop shooting.
