Im very visual, so even having crappy little stick people would help jog my memory as to what I was thinking. So the details stay in your brain...you use the stick figures to trigger the recall.
PS - Im insane! My other shooters dont think like me at all, and thats what works for me. I think I was wired upside down or something.
I also methodically go through a shoot and have posing notes (no illustrations) on what I wanted to do. Ive been doing this lately a lot on the boudoir stuff.
Ill make a note I wanted 4/4 lentgh, hollywood light, broad lit, legs crossed, off centered & leaning back on hands. And that shot is over
here. I ended up changing a couple of things, but it was the general gist of what I was thinking about b4 it was shot.
Next time I do the shoot, I remember that is pose #4, and tweak it from there.
