It's not the same as pulling something that ends with /joe.jpg | Mac 'grab' utility....

Sherina,
Follow the links in this thread to some good examples of using DOF. http://www.texasphotoforum.com/forum...496#post933496

The question's been answered, but I'd like to point out that it's not cool to try and snag someone else's image to post here without their permission.

yes, except it's fish.
Seriously, folks will learn more if they have to dig out the information and PRACTICE!
Digital is free right? It shouldn't take long to figure out DOF when the pictures are free.

Welcome to TPF, you will learn alot of info on here, I know I have over the years and Ive spent alot of years learning....My advice is to read, read, read, practice, practice, read some more and then practice some more...the only way you will learn is to pick up your camera and read the manual front to back and put what youve read to practice.
But to answer your question, you can shoot wide open ( 1.8 or 2.8 depending on your lens ) and get everyone is focus with the bokeh background, the trick is a steady hand, everyone on the same focal plane....once you can get that then bada bing your in business ( not literally) it take alot of learning to be able to call yourself in bizness!
Have fun, practice and read and research
FYI....right clicking on an image on someone web site is a no-no....and then uploading it without permission, another no-no :) kimberley added 0 Minutes and 30 Seconds later...Double Post Merged Below

No you get Real Bokah when yhou can open up to .9!
Cool thing with digital is that you can get instant feedback- shoot / go to laptop and upload/view/ shoot again/ etc while with film you had to shoot 24 times than drive to a lab and then wait an hour at least and then go to your notes and see what you did on shot X and then shoot again so 2 minutes or less now vs 2 hours before which while trying to learn makes a huge difference of getting up on the learning curve.
Same can be said on how to light a scene for the look that you want. You can shoot and see the results and then do the adjustments of the lights/camera to tweek that look to your final results. | | | |
