How do u take this type of pic? - 06-19-2009, 01:22 PM

Ok so how do you do this type of pic? How do you get ALL of them in focus while having a bokeh background? I have a 50mm/f1.8 and also the standard lens that comes with a 50D, which is a 28-135mm. WHere would you focus? What settings?

Go to the photo on the web site an right click on it and a window should pop up with the properties or if smugmug go to get a link. Copy that then come back here click on the post card/mountain photo in the message and then copy it there.

You can't snag photos off a Flash-based site. Anytime it ends in .php you're boned.

It's not the same as pulling something that ends with /joe.jpg

True. Wasn't aware she was trying to share an image that was Flashed.

Ok well maybe I can just describe it b/c I can't seem to post a pic.

I want to try and do two poses.... 1st one is of 3 people in focus but having the bf blurred, so how do I shoot for that? I want them all in focus but bg blurred? I try and get only 1 in focus and the rest blurred????

Also if I have a mom laying on her back, holding up her kid above her, looking down, how do you get BOTH of them in focus while blurring the bg? HELP!

Maybe you should go to smugmug.com or flickr.com and search for pics similar pics and post links to those pics.

From what I'm reading, it looks like you're having trouble controlling your depth of field.

She didn't give us ANY information regarding how or where it was stored. Just on a web site. Even on a flash site she could link to the web site and tell us where to find the photo.

As long as they are on the same focal plane, you'll be fine.
Here's a shot I took last year of a family of 4. This isn't a keeper but it's all I have on this computer right now.

Edit: I'm adding a better example where keeping their face within the focal plane will allow you to shoot at a wider f/stop.

Could be hard if it were part of a series of rotating background images.

Jakestir, I'm assuming you shot those on a tripod? I have trouble getting that good of focus with a 1.8 aperture. Also you were probably shooting from about 30ft or more in front of them right?? In order to get a bigger dof with the 85mm at 1.8, and did you focus on the first row??

Thanks for looking...!
