What a great article. I miss the split prism in my old Spotmatic. I went to auto focus when my glasses made it more difficult to both focus and frame. Now, I find that I often make the camera focus more than once in my chosen focus point by pressing the shutter. The Canon 50D does let you not vary the brightness of the live view LCD if I am not mistaken. I guess I am not sure why the focus aids were ever taken out. One should always have both options. Thanks!
