I need to take a few photo's of my companies products to place in brochure. Has anyone tried the cardboard light box?

Do they work sufficiently?

I don't like using light boxes. The lighting ends up too flat and I can't control it like I like to.
I use regular studio lights and the surface I shoot on depends what I'm shooting.

I've extensively used simple white foam core board (Hobby Lobby!) and diffused strobes with great results.

Here's an example with the light too dim, so you can kinda see how it's set up - one foam core on the table, the other vertical. With the exposure set right, everything disappears but your product.

I kinda like soft boxes, although I use the cloth pop-up ones. It really depends on your product and what you are trying to get at.

Ive done the cardboard light box and have had pretty good results. I did all of my product stuff a while back and could easily do them better now though.
