Question HELP!..spots on lens or sensor? - 10-25-2005, 06:58 PM

I hope someone can point me in the right direction here. If you take a look at the picture you can clearly see spots or blemishes in the blue sky. I've tried blowing off the sensor and cleaning my lens with lens cleaner & paper. I also see something that looks like dust or dark specs in the viewfinder. I've only had this camera for a few months and have never subjected it to harsh elements, so I'm confused as to my next step. Of course Canon said that I would need to send it in and have it looked at to asses any problems. Does anybody have any suggestions? Thanks

Danny

Sounds like it's time to clean the sensor. Dust is common despite how careful you may be.

Two things to do the cleaning will be eclipse liquid and pec pads/tool to clean. You can read up on these to see how it's done/where to get:

Not sure about the dark spot on the view finder...unless it's related to what's being seen through the sensor. If the cleaning doesn't clear that up then I'd consider sending it in too.

The spots in the sky are sensor dust. Check out this link as to how to clean it.

This is the best way I've found to thouroughly clean your sensor. Its not hard, just be careful not to let your shutter close while cleaning.

As far as the dust in the viewfinder, they are different and won't affect your image but if you want to clean it out you'll have to find out how to take your viewfinder apart (like you were going to replace it). I've never done it so I can't help you there. I just live with the specs on the viewfinder as they don't affect anything.

I hope that helps.

There is hope... this dust bunny situation is completely managable.
I use the pecpad system, and after you have done it once, you are no longer scared to death to get in there and clean up your sensor.

I bet there is someone in Houston who would be happy to give you a hand for your first time.

Best thing I have ever found to clean dust off my camera's sensors, fast - easy - and very effective. Oh yeah CHEAP also. Light Tech and Houston Camera exchange sell them around $10-$15 bucks on the high end of things.

Do a Google search and you can find more information on them.
