Questions about Calendar shoots - 08-03-2009, 06:07 PM

I'm going to be doing a calendar shoot for a volunteer group this Saturday. I have no idea how I should set up or anything really. All I know about the shoot is that there will be group pictures and possibly individual pictures that they are going to use for a calendar.

Do I need a backdrop of any sort?
Will one flash be enough for me to work with?
What lens should I use? (I have a 50 1.8, 17-50 2.8, 35mm 1.8, and my stock kit lens.)

I think they want the shoot to be inside with a solid color background against the wall or something.

I've really only done shoots outside so I don't know where to start.

Any advice or comments would be great. Thanks!

it's going to be quite a few people. it isn't going to be a single person in each shot. going to be maybe 2-4 people in a shot together. the venue will probably be just in a room and i'm going to have to provide a backdrop of some sort. wardrobe will just be their costumes or whatever. i have a couple flashese to work with.

You are actually asking the wrong people. You need to be talking to whoever is in charge of the calendar images. We can give you advice all day long, but it might be totally wrong. Ask questions of the promoters until you know exactly what they are looking for. Then if you need a little technical help come back to the forum.

Well, now I've got one more thing that I can't say I've never done.

formerly " I've never referred to any guy as a Big Hairy Wang "

currently " I know this guy who's a Big Harry Wang ".

I agree with Don about asking them what they want.

I haven't seen the venue but for multiple people you will need a smaller aperature to get them in focus f8 or above so a tripod would be ideal, use your best lens, a flash with an umbrella or 2 and make sure they are parallel to your cameras focal plain.
