I know this is a dumb question, but how do you get your file small enough to post the avatar for this forum? I had to reduce mine twice to get the file small enough, and you can see the poor results. Do you have to start with a small file?

I started with an image and cropped it square and then, I use ACDSee and just did a resize to 100x100 and a 65% compression and thats it.

60 views and only one response. I didn't realize it was a trade secret!

I don't have ACDSee, so I guess I'll just have to keep my grainy picture.

Actually, any photo editor can probably resize the avatar to 100x100 pixels. I found that to keep the crispness, I had to sharpen the small pic as well; because it's so small, one can over sharpen wothout problems.

I just experimented until I had something I thought looked good.

I did mine in photoshop. I just went to image and resized it and photoshop resampled the quality to fit the size. when I get hoime I can post the steps, but the image editor on XP should do it as well

I just opened my image in PS Elements 2 and resized it to the size it said. Very easy. If you have any program to open the image in, it should allow you to simply resize it. You shouldn't have to crop at all.
