embedded colors - 10-31-2005, 01:32 AM

So i recently converted my color profile from sRGB to adobe 1998. Now everytime I open my file it says whether i want to convert to working space or continue using embedded (which was sRGB.) my question is, do I have to convert it or can i just simply turn the function off and automatically use the working space color profile.

Did you change the camera color space? I think that's what your saying you did. Go into the Color Preferences menu in Photoshop and change your color space to Adobe 98. It won't do it anymore, plus you'll have more accurate and better color.

ok good. thanks, thats what i did. i printed some photos through winkflash and they came out entirely too dark compared to my proofs on the pc. will this change my printout quality? will the photos be basically what i see on the screen/monitor?

If you shoot aRGB that will give you a wider color gamut, but most online printmakers, including Winkflash, will want you to convert to sRGB before you send them the file.

Link to Winkflashe's FAQ

Also, is your monitor calibrated and is there a certain color space you proof with in PS?

uhh.. proof? hahaha, nope!

and i read winkflashes policy and FAQ's but like I said in the first post, the colors were just too dark. So if i switched to Adobe 98 would that improve the quality or should I just LIGHTEN the original images prior to sending them to wink..

As bbailey asked is your montior calibrated? If it isn't that could explain why your prints don't come out like they look like on the monitor.

Start here: http://www.normankoren.com/makingfineprints1A.html

I personally use a Gretag McBeth Eye One Two device to calibrate my monitors. There are three major calibration device manufacturers; GMB, Monaco, & ColorVision. All are referenced in Norman's excellent writeup listed above.

Stop now, don't edit another image without at least using the human eye method for calibrating your monitor. Your images will thank you
