Photoshop paintbrush(opacity) problem - 10-31-2005, 11:12 AM

When using the paintbrush tool and you have the opacity set below 100%, is there a way to set it so that when you 'paint' over the same spot it doesn't increase the color? It's driving me insane..lol. I have searched and searched online and can't find anything about this. I've played with every setting I know of and can't get it right. Is this even possible? I'd appreciate any tips! Thanks!

I usually set the opacity even lower and go over the area a couple of times.

Paint in one continuous brush-stroke and even if you go over an area more than once it won't increase the effect in that area beyond the brush's opacity setting. But once you "lift up" the brush and start a new brushstroke, going over areas will inrease the intensity by however much the opacity is set to. Make sense? It's kinda hard to explain but there is a logic to it.

Yeah, I know how that works but it's annoying..lol. :) I often have things that require me to zoom in and use a small brush size.. so when I move around the canvas to 'paint' a new area that's when the problem arises with painting over areas.. It can be done of course if you're careful, I just thought there might be a way to make it not reset when you lift up the brush. They really should provide that option :)
