help on keeping pupils constricted - 09-10-2009, 12:49 AM

OK, I have been doing some studio shots and my studio is on the dark side. I have 1 very bright very low temperature light that I have out there but it's still not keeping the pupil constricted like I want. I was thinking of maybe using a strap on led head lamp. Would that be a total dork thing to do? Anyone have any suggestions?

I typically use the 300w modeling lamp on another strobe (that does not fire) with a cone reflector or sometimes my beauty dish to add to the ambient light. It's bright, so when not shooting I turn it away from the subject. Just remember to turn it back before you fire. If you keep this light near camera axis the extra little catchlight will be in the pupil and easy to clone out in the final images. YMMV.

Use the silver umbrella reflector and your 150w should be enough. That is if you have an extra strobe. If not, then improvise. You just need more ambient light. Unless you're shooting wide open or dragging the shutter, the ambient should not effect the final exposure.

And BTW, Hensel strobes rock

I was wondering the same thing and have gotten some good advice by readying your post. Good question.
