Pricing Headshots - 09-25-2009, 04:48 PM

Hello to all,

I wanted to know if anyone could give me an idea on how to price headshots. I have someone interested in taken headshots, but I haven't given any prices because I have no idea...

I don't want to charge too little or too much..

So I need some suggestions please....

Thanks
Danielle

Danielle, if you look around TPF this type of topic has been discussed before several times, it may be talking about Senior shoots or Baby pics but pretty much it comes down to portraits taken of a customer.

Now what are you going to offer them? A group of photos of various sizes (aka Walmart/Olan Mills Package say 12 5x7's and a couple larger photos? A poster size print? A print that is a wrap printed on canvas? Just a finished file which they get prints made from?
Are you doing this in an office? outside with a nice background? With a Canvas/Green Screen Background (and associated PS work)?

Is this of one person/two/family? Formal poses? Informal?
Multiple poses? Clothing Changes?

How far are you traveling to do the shoot?

How is the economy in your area?

If they want Walmart/Olen Mills/Glamour Shots type results then you should understand that a single person is going to end up spending around $100 or more for what they end up with-ie package of shots printed in various sizes.

So there are a lot of variables.

Think that for every 30 minutes that you shoot you will spend around an hour or more in post production to come up with your finished product.

But do a search here and then add questions to some of those threads to clarify current prices.

Thanks DemDeepEllumMusic,

I'm glad you broke it down for me. I haven't done too many headshots, so I really hadn't thought about all the variables. I was thinking more of a several packages even though they are a headache. Also I was thinking about given her prices for singles just in case she didn't want a packages. The pictures will be 8x10's.

So are these shots for trying to get an acting/modeling job? Then give her a good price per 8x10 but require her to get at least 50 copies of whatever pose that she wants, if it is just say 4 8x10's then you need to charge her a setting fee for the shoot and then give her a package of say 4 photos with as many as X poses (in this case 4 max) but DO NOT GIVE HER THE RAW OR JPG FILES! If she wants to buy the files tell her it is $50 per file (or some other high number) and that you only sell all files from a shoot as a package since once they get the RAW file it is outside of your hands and no more revenue will be coming to you.

So look around TPF,this topic has been covered many times, and bring some of the old threads current with questions if they don't answer your needs.
