Bill,
Props are difficult to be general about, because a prop has to fit for the ideas for your shoot. A good prop depends on how old the child is, what they are wearing, an what your overall scene is. A great chair is a good start.

Thanks for the response Heather. Some would be play clothes and others a little more dressed up. Smaller children, 4-7 yrs old.

I have used children books. Stacked up and them sitting on them and well as having them read it. One was one readin the book and having the child peek over the book . Good shot for close up on their eyes. Especially if they have bright eyes. For play clothes have them toss a beach ball around to each other. Here is an example of what I'm talking about.

Colorful buckets, benches, stools, them and their favorite blanket or toy, etc. I also like to use big huge old chairs. I like how it looks when the chair is huge and the child is small.

My 'go to' props are always chairs.....all shapes, sizes and bright colors.

Can't really add much to the list of what the others before me have mentioned, except for flowers. I have lots of props, but rarely use them on a white background.

If it a boy...Coverall jean rolled up, no shoes or socks, No shirt, a straw hat.....and a can pole for fishing....
Kinda the fishing in Mayberry look!

If its a girl....dressed to die for and hugging her favorite doll

I went to one photographer and he had a computer monitor hooked up behind the camera and he had a lot of material on his hard drive which he found to be interesting to the children. It worked well when he used it.
