Ghosts in the machine?

I'd double check all the menu settings to make sure you aren't multi-exposing. It's sort of cool if you can control it...

I would love to be able to control it! I did not change any settings, other then aparture, and took close to 200 photos and it only happened the one time.

I have never used the multi exposure setting, but I may play with it now!

Although I shoot Canon, having just read Joe McNally's "Hot Shoe Diaries" he shhots Nikon and mentions in it (Gettin Fancy, pg 213) that there is a custom function that give high end DSLRs the ability to make double exposures.

I don't believe any of my Canons have had this. Not high end enough.

I can't tell you where that setting would be, but check your manual or search on it.

Thanks, I did some research on google after reading your responses, and did find the multiexposure setting on my camera, I am heading back out in a few minutes to photograph the horse show again and will have to play with it. I guess it is possible I set it before when making adjustments? Who knows, but will let you know what happens. I hope I can do it again, I did double exposure on my 35mm years ago and have some nice shots from it.

Thanks again, this place is great!

Dunno, does the D80 have a button combo that could have tripped accidentally?

I only ask, because while shooting Saturday night, I went to change the ISO on my D90, hit the wring button and instead started shooting jpegs instead of RAW. I think I fired off about thirty sots before I realized what had happened.

I figured it out! I do not know how I originally set the multiexposure, but I must have. Once you have done multiexposure once it auotmatically turns off, that is why it only happened once. I played around with it yesterday and with some practice, this could be fun. here are a few more,

A quick google to find out if Canon DSLRs have the option turned up nothing besides multiple-frame exposures for combining into an HDR image.

But being able to expose more than once in one frame is a neat feature to have in the right situations. I know I can do a long exposure and use my 580 EX II flash as a stroboscope to create multiple flash exposures in one image.
