PCA International - 02-25-2005, 02:45 PM

Hello all, as I have said befor I am a photography student at Amarillo college and dont know much about the industry. I have been offered a job at PCA International (Wal-Mart Portrait Studio). I was wondering if anyone knew about this company and if this may be a good way to start into a career as a portrait photographer, or if this company may be a joke and hurt me in the long run....any comment welcome

Thanks,
Chris

Well, I don't know about WalMart in general, but I used to work at Glamor Shots as a photographer. Anyone can shoot for them if they are even a littile bit competent as a photographer. But, I will say, that even if the equipment is idiot proof, you still learn how to work with people and pose them which is invaluable if you want to be a portrait photographer. So, even if everything is pre-setup for you, equipment wise, you will still learn about working with and posing people. So, it couldn't hurt, at least, in my opinion.

Its probably not the kind of job you will brag about later but I think you will learn from it. Even if WalMart studios are not well regarded I can't imagine how it would hurt you later. I say do it.

Have fun,
Greg

Leslie is right about the experience. my wife graduated years ago with a BA in photography and got a job with PCA. back they had Joske's department stores. she learned alot about working with people and especially children. didn't realize they were into Walmarts
