I agree with him there's room for both, and plenty of popularity for traditional work in the mainstream (and particularly among photographers). But it sure seems like the Art World (galleries, collectors, auctions, etc) is completely dominated by the post-modernists. The only 'traditional' work selling is rare prints from long-dead photographers. So I'd probably have to agree with the woman who told the Chinese they didn't have much chance in the gallery world.

Interestingly I have found China has a vibrant post-modern photography movement.You can see some examples in the Haudenschild Chinese Collection.
