So I'm using my friends digital rebel and i want to change it so I decide where the focus point is as opposed to automatically detecting it. Anyone know how to switch over to that?

If I remember right there is a button on the far right and top on the back of the Rebel that has a square box with a set of dots that looks like a crosshair over it. When in shooting mode (LCD is dark) pressing that button should cause the focus points in the viewfinder to glow red. Moving the dial right behind the capture button rotates through the different AF points. Stop on the point you want to use and press the capture button half way down to set. I hope this helps!

Rear of the camera. Top right. A button marked with a + magnifying glass (on the back of the camera) and the rectangle with a cross made of dots (on the top surface of the camera).

Press that button and roll the finger wheel while looking through the view finder. The red dot tells you which focus point is in use.

Set it to whichever you want.
