Smile Tips for my son's 1st bday pics! - 01-11-2010, 12:16 AM

So Im really new to this site. I have been reading for what seems like days..:) ...so many great ideas and tips....(and photographs) ..

My husband just purchased me a new cannon ..I had been using just a "regular" camera for the longest..But I was always "that one mom" taking pictures EVERYWHERE..so this new camera is a bit different. But Im slowly learning.

So I want to do my son's 1st bday pictures. I have looked up many ideas for locations..1 being the botanical garden in Fort Worth. I also want to use the wood letters spelling ONE. (One letter at a time ..obviously:) So I was thinking picnik bench....maybe standing with each letter...maybe crawling with ONE spelled behind him?!?!..So you get where I'm going....Any suggestions? Props, locations...and even ideas!

Thanks in advance!
Sharla

I haven't lived in DFW in 4 years ... but still visit for family.

ANYWAYS, Check out the Dallas Arboretum
Link ->> Dallas Arboretum

I've shot there... lots of great places.

How about any good parks?? If you are close to North Dallas there is White Rock Lake ... great place.

Or even a nice playground and get your child enjoying his childhood on the playground.
Get shots of him on a swing set, down a slide, on the teeter-tooter.

Hope this gets your creative juices going ... and happy BDay to your son.

I just thought about also if you live in South Dallas or Grand Prarie ... there's Joe Pool Lake.

Or for some TX fun shots ... the Fort Worth Stock Yards. If I remember, on the weekends ... and good parts of the week days. They have people dressed in the full western style Cowboys and Cowgirls that would be a great background and foreground for your son to interact with. And would look cool for him to have the wood letters up with that background.

Thanks...Yeah were in Grand Prairie/Mansfield. So I do want to check out Joe Pool Lake..but its been a bit chilly:) I also thought about downtown mansfield. I will one of these days try the stock yards. Not sure if it would be for my 4 year old or 1 year old...most likely my 4 year old. I need to just drive...and find some parks like you said. I really also like the whole colored walls and brick walls. Do you know where there are wild colored walls. (like solid teal, reds..etc..)

MYphilosophy is that the photo should be about the one yr. old and not about the background. If I wanted a killer background I'd go to Disneyland.
K.I.S.S. Keep it simple.

I did not take this image, but it is simple and was shot at the birthday party located at The Little Gym in Dallas.

p.s. my 'virtual' grandson

Yup, very good advice, especially about keeping it simple and about the little guy.
A pic with his hand in the cake with the big "1" candle on it would tell the story. Then, turn him loose and be fast, wherever you are!

I missed a goodie of my 3 year old daughter armpit deep in one of the tidal pools at Sea World. She was gonna take one of the fishies home with her!
DRAT!

Keep at it: the more you take, the better you be!
