Why must a photograph have a subject?

Where did anyone say that? I never said that every photograph must have a subject, I just said that not every photograph "is all about light". In some photographs subject is most important, for others it's the light, the composition, the color, or some combination.

I have to agree with Jeff. It's like a woman, the whole package is what counts. Good photos have more than light and shadows, they have mood, texture, color, movement, etc...

I disagree with that. It took about two hours...slight learning disability...for me, anyway.

The eye, and its close companion lighting, take a lifetime of learning, modifying, and experimenting to perfect. I'm still working on it. That's the hard part.
