Flash for camera - 11-18-2005, 08:35 AM

I have a Sony DSCF828 and was wondering if anybody knows if a detachable flash was available for it. I've looked around but haven't come across any. If not - what could I use to take photos of subjects that I would want to get a different angle of light. Flashlight?

Thanks for the help.

The 828 has a hot shoe, so almost any external flash unit should work, but the flash will not get exposure information from the camera. Lots of people like the Sunpack 383. I have an older Vivitar 2500 flash that works well. I also have a Sofen OmniBounce diffuser which keeps the flash from being so harsh.

Sony has external flash units available that attach to the hot shoe, and also connect to the ACC port of the the camera. The camera will communicate exposure information with the flash and make settings in the flash unit.

Do a bit of Google searching and you will find one to suit your needs and budget.

Sony makes the HVL F32X and the HVL F1000 which work very well with the 828. I have the older HVL-F1000 for mine. It sits in the camera shoe, but is not a hot shoe flash. It communicates with the camera through a cord and port.
The HLV-F32X is a more sophisticated unit. It is a hot shoe flash. Here is some more about it... http://www.imaging-resource.com/EVEN...046549875.html
More expensive but far more sophisticated.

Okay. I checked those out and will give it some thought. I guess I was thinking more in the lines of what I've seen wedding photographers use. The flash where they can hold it up at a distance from the camera to get the lighting they need. Probably not available on Sony. Any comments about the Sony HVL-RLA Ring Light for macro photography?
