Question Concert / Band / Nightlife: Needs photo tips - 11-18-2005, 11:15 AM

Hi.

I will be shooting a local band tonight and I could use some tips on what to use and some do's and don'ts. I have limited lens, but I'll have to get by with what I have. I'll be using my D70 with a 18-70mm AF-S DX f/3.5-4.5G IF-ED zoom Nikkor lens. I'll also be bringing my 50mm 1.4 lens to.

Things I think I know.
1) ISO > 400
2) Aperture < 6
3) Shutter speed > 1/250

I have to play with the shutter speed to see which lowest setting I can use before camera shake.

Any suggestions and tips are appreciated. Thanks.

the best is to have lenses with <= 2.8 , 1/250 is plenty, unless they runnin, jumping a lot on stage, shoot RAW

just few examples

Your really under the mercy of the available stage lighting and shooting location. Every show is different. There are no set rules. Take what you have and make adjusments.

Thanks for the input. I understand the 2.8 but the best I have is the 50mm 1.4. I guess I'll make due.

My understanding is that the D70 doesn't handle higher ISO's very well.. If this is true, keep it in mind, and be sure to be ready for some noise reduction post processing - unless you like the noise (and some do).
