First, welcome!
Second, for me the obvious would be the hardlight from the flash casting the shadows from the branch onto her wrist, his shirt..you get the point. Diffusing the light will make it better.
Third, it looks like he has a hint of red eye?
Fourth, you'll get some better critiques and suggestions and most importantly honest.

Kind of like posting on an auto mechanic site " I'm fixing up and old car and would like you to help me". With such a general question you run the risk of being torched by a barrage of comments ranging from posing to lighting to post production, etc, etc. Sit back, read, observe, and learn. Learn to use the search function. Tons of info on tons of topics, so go nuts. Try to be a little more specific about questions. Oh, and welcome.

LOL - yeah...you, me, and about 27.4 million other Americans. Based on your first posted photo, you have a lot to learn. Hey, we all started there so welcome to the machine.

Agree w/ Texkam: Be more specific with your questions and you'll get much better answers. Open ended questions tend to invite abuse here or anywhere online. You're new and we don't want to be mean, it just sort of happens...

Learn photography for fun. Truly learn how to shoot and how to light.

The vast, vast, vast majority of photography businesses fail and with good reason. It is extremely hard to make a living at it.

However, it is quite easy to enjoy yourself and have fun as a photographer. If the business is meant to be, it will come.

Hey, Bill, welcome to the forum. You posted a nice snapshot. Unless you have a degree in business and tons of marketing experience, I suggest that you not give up your day job. The photography is the easy part of it. Making a decent living at it is the other 80% of the struggle. Olan Mills has demonstrated that you don't have to really know much about photography to have a successful photography business.

I am also new to photography. What photo editing software to you recommend for someone just getting into photography. Any classes that you can recommend in the Houston or Austin area?
