Photo to Art - 03-03-2010, 11:51 AM

Can someone recommend a Mac software or photoshop plugin that will turn a photo into an image that looks like a painting?

Or, are there easy steps in photoshop for achieving this look?

Thanks,
David

Topaz Simplify is what you're thinking of... not as flexible as Corel Paint, but a lot cheaper.

With a tablet (I use a wacom) and smudge painting technique, you can do 1000 times better than any plug in will do. Now Mine will not be a top shelf example but here is one I did of a cat. using this technique

There is a great DVD that teachs this technique but I cant think of the guys name right now. Brad something. He was on the Canon forum for a long time showing off his work but got booted cause they felt he was violating the no product promotion rule. I will get his name off the DVD tonight and post it if you like.

Photography is Art. If you it to look like a painting, learn to paint. It'll also improve your photography.

I love the way a painting looks, but cant paint worth a darn. However, I'd like to think I can take a pretty good photograph. I have looked a little into turning a photograph into a painting, as that might be something I can do, but still looks a bit too difficult for me. I did come across Brad Buttry as the fellow with the DVD tutorials on smudge painting, but have not invested in them yet. Here is a link to a simple smudge painting tutorial: smudge tutorial
