Manual alot of the time, auto when it's fast pace stuff. Manual focus most of the time because I want to make sure I decided what's in focus not the lens. Both, I have shot fully auto as well and was happy with the results. Sometimes I have to tell myself to trust the equipment and it's worked out.

And here I am using AV and TV most of the time, jup I'm an amateur! I don’t think I control all of the aspects enough that I can use Manual.

I shoot all 3 of the auto modes and very rarely full manual. My camera makes excellent decisions on all aspects of what it is doing, as far as my tastes are concerned. My shooting is primarily under totally uncontrolled conditions, and to use full manual would be too time consuming and would result in my missing a lot of what I want to capture.
If I was in a studio, with controlled lighting and the camera pointed at a subject that was not moving from one side of the universe to the other, I would probably go manual.
But the way it is I would be severally handicapped with full manual shooting

I tried the AV mode and i just couldnt get it to workout for me. I do ok in Av mode outside but when it comes to inside i feel alittle more comfortable in manual mode. I have only had my camera for about 3 weeks so iam still trying to get the hang of it. I started out with the rebel xt but got Able to convince my wife to let me exchange it for the 20d.
